Renault-Geneva Motor Show 2014 | Car Pictures Blog Posted: 08 Apr 2014 05:57 AM PDT Geneva Motor Show 2014 Live: Renault Twingo 2014 Review The star at Renault stand was undoubtedly the new Twingo. Although it was changed dramatically, we still recognize some elements from the previous generation. We are talking about the satellite control of the audio unit, some buttons on the dash and the center console, signal levers, the gearshift leaver and parking brake lever. Further, all items found are new and complement the five-door bodywork instead of three, which hides a propulsion system with rear-wheel drive and rear engine. The platform is shared with the future Smart ForTwo. The third generation of Twingo is built on a completely new platform, born in a partnership with Mercedes, as part of the deal that Daimler made it with Renault-Nissan. the work on the new rear-engine and rear-wheel-drive architecture started in 2010 and aiming to accommodate both the new Twingo and the future Smart with two or four seats. Renault didn't give any details about the 2014 Renault Twingo engine, but in the past, the Dacia plant (Romania) prepared a 0.9 Tce engine for the small Smart Fortwo. An extremely important novelty is the bodywork configuration. 2014 Renault Twingo comes with five doors and not with three as the previous generations were. The second doors come with handles hidden in the last row of pillars. The windows will have a lateral opening, just like the current model. |

Cars & Coffee / Supercar Saturday Pictures | drivetofive Posted: 08 Apr 2014 06:08 AM PDT Odometer (Legend): 529,140 Odometer (ILX): 73,452 Car culture in the Phoenix, Arizona area is alive and well year-round. On any given weekend, you're bound to see a fair share of classic and collectible cars. One of the events that I attend regularly is called Cars & Coffee. An entire parking lot fills to the brim every first Saturday of the month, and I took my 1992 Acura NSX out this past weekend. Here are a few of the other vehicles in attendance. This one really puts a size differential into play. A Nissan GT-R dwarfs my friend Neil's Berlina Black NSX. It's easy to see that "anything goes." The diversity of vehicles in attendance at C&C was evident. Nice rides all around. This event is one of things worth getting up early on a Saturday for. Oh, and did I mention a Bugatti Veyron was in attendance. We're looking at a couple million dollars right here. Makes my NSX and this Porsche seem so humble in comparison. My friend Chase showed up in his 26,000 mile beautiful NSX, too. In the background you'll notice a Volvo much like the one that Irv Gordon drove to 3,000,000 miles not long ago. Another red NSX. They were scattered throughout the show! This was a 1996 with 40,000 miles and a bunch of performance goodies. Of all the cars in attendance, this one intrigued me the most. This is called a Facel Vega. It was produced from 1962 through 1964 in France and powered by a Chrysler engine. I loved those subtle tailfins with integrated brake lamps. Rallying the troops for the next event: Supercar Saturday. About once every six months, a Scottsdale-based company called Supercar Specialists hosts a road rally of sorts that I've attended on a few occasions. Here, a hundred or so cars got together for a cruise to the mountains. Even an Enzo Ferrari made came out to play. Meeting & mingling with other car owners before heading to the hills. Gotta love that color. Yet another Formula Red NSX. And Chase's car again. After distributing maps to the day's destination, everyone got in their cars and rolled out in a giant caravan. Start your engines. There's a sexy black Lambo. I followed my friends Kelvin and Neil as we made our way toward the Interstate 17 northbound onramp. A couple more taken by others. Hope you enjoyed the pics! |
Smart Car Tipping Nearly Global Now | WebProNews Posted: 08 Apr 2014 05:07 PM PDT Smart cars are gas sippers, and some models don't use gas at all. They are really good for the environment, comparatively speaking, and are all the rage among skinny folks. While the name may seem to be self-explanatory, there is actually a story behind it. Long story short, the car's history is tied up with both Mercedes and Swatch, the wristwatch company. In fact, they wanted the car to be called a Swatch Car, which may explain a lot. Mercedes (Daimler-Benz), thankfully, balked at that idea. "Smart", instead, is an acronym. An acronym is an abbreviation or initialism that is pronounceable as a standalone word. Contrary to what telecommunications reps and IT workers try to tell you, abbreviations like HTML, URL, HDMI, and GPS are NOT acronyms. They are simple initialisms. They are not pronounceable as a standalone word. On the other hand, LASER, NATO, SCUBA, AIDS, and ROM are acronyms. The acronym SMART is short for Swatch Mercedes Art. And the trouble with the little wristwatch cars is that they are easy to tip. We're not talking early Geo Tracker tipping. We're talking about a group of punks — sometimes as few as two — rolling the vehicle over on its back, top or side. We even told you earlier about how some kids in Amsterdam pick them up and toss them into the canals along the streets. But Smart car tipping, as it is called here in the United States — it may be called "car tossing" elsewhere — is not a new phenomenon. We have already discussed the Amsterdam sport. But the Canadians have seen it too. In 2009, the Toronto Star reported that vandals were tipping Smart cars in their fair city. In one reported case, the car was tipped by a single individual. Bystanders were so amused that they posed with the tipped car for pictures. In fact, the reactions of most people upon seeing the tiny tipped vehicles is to chuckle. Of course, it's no laughing matter for the vehicle owner. Depending on how the vehicle is damaged, it could total the car. But if not, they may end up footing the bill for repairs themselves, into the thousands of dollars. Tipping a Smart car, no matter how funny it looks, is no different than smashing the windows of any other vehicle. And that's what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps.
