Goodwood Members' Meeting 2014 - Surtees Trophy Photos, Results Posted: 31 Mar 2014 01:30 PM PDT The Surtees Trophy at the 2014 Goodwood Members' Meeting was held March 29-30 at the 2.4-mile Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England. The race for sports racing cars that competed between 1960 and 1966 was staged in honor of John Surtees, the only man ever to have won World Championships on two and four wheels. This year marks the 50th anniversary of John Surtees as Formula One World Champion in 1964 as a works Ferrari driver. The John Surtees Trophy, however, was to honor his great success in powerful sports racers: in 1966, he claimed the Can-Am championship aboard a Lola T70 Spider which was the sole title for a British marque in the original series' nine-year history. The Surtees Trophy race at the 2014 Goodwood Members' Meeting featured the Ford GT40 facing well-known open-cockpit Group 7 machines such as the McLaren M1A / M1B and Lola T70 Spider, as well as Cooper Monacos, Lotus 30s and other booming V8 machines. The winning combination was the Chevrolet-powered McLaren M1B of Chris Goodwin, who finished nearly nine seconds ahead of the Lola T70 Spyder of Jon Minshaw. The Huffaker Genie Mk9 of Pier Enrico Tonetti, James Cottingham's Ford GT40 and the McLaren M1B of Chris Drake rounded out the top five. – Senior Photographer Tim Scott documented the 72nd Goodwood Members' Meeting in 2014, including the following pictures from the Surtees Trophy race for sports racers from 1960 to 1966.
