MIAMI (CBMiami) – Miami police have asked for the public's help in identifying two people who are suspected of vandalizing and burglarizing 40 vehicles in an apartment building's parking garage.

On Tuesday, they released surveillance pictures of the individuals they are looking for.

The break-ins happened in the early morning hours of March 6th at the Edificio Camacho Apartments' parking garage at 120 SW 8th Avenue. Forty vehicles had their windows smashed in, some were burglarized.

"I woke up this morning and I'm trying to go to work when I find out they broke into my car. The got into like forty something cars," said Raymond Lopez the morning of the incident. "Fortunately they didn't take anything from my car but it's a bad thing in a building, a private building, that those things happen."

Lopez said when he went down to his car, at first he didn't realize what had happened.

"I went to the passenger side of the car to put my things in because I'm a coach and I see all these people in the parking lot at the same time checking their cars. So that's when I found a police report on my car and when I went to check I found my car was damaged, glass everywhere. It's very disappointing," said Lopez.

The garage did have security gates. Police are trying to figure out how they entered the building.

"The alarms never came up. We're supposed to have (surveillance) cameras, so hopefully the police will do a full investigation and find those responsible for this incident," said Lopez.

The garage's surveillance cameras reportedly didn't catch them getting in. However they did capture what looks like four men prowling through the parking lot around 3 a.m. On the video, the men are seen looking through windows with a flashlight and then using some kind of tool to punch them out.

At some point a resident pulls up and honks at the men who jump out a window and take off with their loot which included cash along with radios and GPS units.

Peugeot Exalt concept revealed - plus exclusive studio pictures ...

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 11:30 PM PDT

The Peugeot Exalt concept has been revealed ahead of its world debut at the Beijing motor show at the end of next week, and is shown here in our exclusive studio pictures.

Described as the French firm's "vision of the saloon", the Exalt follows on from the Onyx concept of 2012. The Exalt uses the same bare materials approach as the Onyx, and features wool-based fabric, leather, bare steel and ebony. Its exposed steel bodywork is designed to echo historical models, and is hand-beaten into shape.

Parts of the concept are also covered in 'shark skin', a material which Peugeot says improves aerodynamic performance and fuel consumption.

Measuring 4.7-metres long, the five-door luxury saloon has a low roofline of 1.31-metres, with its sleek shape "concealing a cabin that is still spacious". The concept sits on 20-inch wheels, and weighs 1700kg.

Exterior features include a new black light system, which Peugeot says improves visibility during low light conditions, such as at dusk and dawn.

A plug-in hybrid, the Exalt uses the same 1.6-litre THP engine as the RCZ R, but the four-cylinder petrol engine's 266bhp is supplemented by a 67bhp electric motor mounted on the multi-link rear axle. Peugeot's Hybrid4 system automatically selects which driving mode to use, choosing from pure electric, petrol only or petrol-electric hybrid options.

It is also built on a version of the EMP2 platform that underpins the next generation of PSA vehicles, including the 2013 Car of the Year winner, the Peugeot 308. According to Peugeot, the Exalt features "an intense driving experience dedicated to enjoyment"

Inside, a leather and wood-trimmed steering wheel features alongside a digital instrument cluster and two folding touch screens on the large centre console. The upper screen controls the main infotainment functions, while the lower screen offers climate control as well as access to Peugeot's Pure Blue air-filtration system.

Piano-key inspired switchgear also features, arranged both to the left and right of the steering wheel. Passengers are seated in special bucket seats made from leather and wool-based fabric, while black ebony wood trim with a special design motif can also be seen.

Helping to mark the rebirth of Peugeot, it's no coincidence the French car maker has chosen to unveil the Exalt in Beijing. Asian buyers are traditionally more receptive to new ideas, and China's second largest manufacturer, Dongfeng, recently took a stake in PSA.

It's believed that Peugeot is planning something of an upmarket relaunch in the Chinese market, carving out new opportunities in the same vein as Citroën's DS line, which is seen as a separate brand in China.

Speaking to Autocar, Sophie Gazeu – colour and materials stylist for the concept – said the Exalt had taken 18 months to create, far longer than a traditional concept: "There is more than one way to do luxury. A top-end leather handbag that has aged is more highly prized than one that has come straight out of the shop. Wooden furniture that has marked through use is said to have character.

"We hear a lot about authenticity, but what is authentic about a piece of wood that has 1000 layers of lacquer on it, or real leather that is treated so much that it looks like plastic, no matter for how many years you use it?"

Style director Gilles Vidal said: "The Onyx supercar concept was our guiding force.

"That set the design philosophy, and especially the principle of having an emotional relationship with a car that sets it apart, led by the use of materials. At this end of the market, you are not buying the car because you have to. You are buying it because you want to. The Exalt is very distinguishable as a modern Peugeot."

Vandals Flip Over Smart Cars in San Francisco | NBC Bay Area

Posted: 07 Apr 2014 05:45 PM PDT

Someone's been vandalizing compact Smart cars in San Francisco, flipping the tiny vehicles on their front and rear ends in the city's streets.

NBC Bay Area found four of the targeted Smart cars between Sunday night and Monday morning. Two were found in the Bernal Heights neighborhood on Anderson Street, and another was found a bit south on Sweeny and Bowdoin streets, closer to the Portola district. They were either sitting on their headlights, rear bumpers high in the air, or vice versa.

More Photos and Videos

A fourth Smart car -- a small white one with a faded "Obama-Biden" bumper sticker -- was discovered Monday about 9 a.m. at Coso and Prospect avenues between the Mission District and Bernal Heights. Shelley Gallivan was babysitting her friend's Smart car after it was left to her by her late father, and was shocked to find it flipped on its right side.

"Whoever is doing this just has misdirected anger," Gallivan said.

San Francisco Police Officer Gordon Shyy said the suspects are still at large and will face felony vandalism charges if they are caught. Police do have an eye witness account to work from.

Brandon Michael was out having a cigarette about 1 a.m. Monday when he spotted about six to eight people wearing hooded sweatshirts flip over the cars.

"They looked like they were up to no good," Michael said. "And sure enough, they huddled around it and lifted it up."

And the vandalized cars? Michael said they reminded him of little dogs: "They look like they are dachshunds sitting up on their hind legs."

Smart car representatives did not respond immediately for comment.

Neighbors were puzzled at the odd sight. Smart cars are a mainstay for many in San Francisco, where parking is tight and drivers search for eco-friendly ways to get around.

"I think it's a bunch of pranks," Dan Gomez said. "I don't know, it sounds kind of weird. I don't know why you would want to do that."

Smart Automobile is headquartered in Boblingen, Germany, and has its primary assembly plant in Hambach, France. The idea for the car was hatched in early 1990s when Nicholas Hayek, the inventor of the Swatch watch, approached Mercedes-Benz to realize his vision of an "ultra-urban" car, according to the company website. The first Smart car came to the United States - specifically Manhattan - in 2008.

The cars start at about $13,000 and the company brands its cars with a lower case "s."

Tipping over large, heavy objects just for kicks is nothing new. High schoolers, football teams and fraternities have supposedly been tipping cows in pastures for years, and picking up VW bugs and moving them elsewhere was a minor fad back in the 1960s and 1970s.

The exact motives behind the vandalism are unclear. The diminutive cars are smaller and lighter than most vehicles. A Smart car weighs about 1,500 pounds; a Ford Focus S Sedan weighs close to 3,000 pounds, and a Hummer clocks in at 8,600 pounds -- definitely a heft that would pose a flipping challenge.

The VoiceofVancouver showed a video of people flipping over a Smart car in 2011 during a citywide riot, as did another YouTube user who showed people smashing the high-tech mini-car. In 2009, the Toronto Star wrote a piece, comparing the act of tipping over the pint-size vehicles as the modern-day equivalent of tipping over cows.

The Smart car website has a forum with frustrated car owners discussing the pricey prank.

And a parody Facebook page was set up called "Smart Car Tipping" by a creator who does not "practice, promote or condone Smart Car Tipping."

One website, however, seemed to be cheering on the tipping. TotalFratMove.com called the Smart car tippers "heroes" and described the cars as "teensy little wheeled boxes."

Full new Nissan X-Trail details revealed - plus new pictures | Autocar

Posted: 09 Apr 2014 06:26 AM PDT

The all-new Nissan X-Trail will cost less than £25,000 when it goes on sale in May, while range-topping models will cost just over £30,000. Three chassis configurations will be offered, along with five- and seven-seat options.

The X-Trail will initially be offered with the same 1.6-litre turbodiesel as fitted to the new Qashqai, which develops 130bhp. The 1.6-litre DIG-T from the Juke Nismo will be offered after launch, but for this application power output will be reduced from 200bhp to 160bhp in an effort to increase economy.

Nissan says around 45 per cent of buyers will choose a front-drive variant, with a similar number opting for four-wheel-drive models. Around 10 per cent of models will be fitted with Nissan's X-Tronic CVT transmission driving the front wheels.

In front-wheel-drive guise, emissions are rated at 129g/km, rising to 135g/km and 139g/km for X-Tronic and four-wheel drive models. Fuel economy is said to be around 57, 55 and 53mpg respectively.

The sleeker styling is a direct effort to attract current Qashqai+2 owners, a model that is no longer offered. Although around 100mm longer, prices are expected to climb slightly for comparable engines. No prices have been confirmed for the seven-seat option, but an insider said prices would compete with the £1200 option in the Hyundai Santa Fe range.

Both five- and seven-seat variants will have broadly the same bootspace, although five seaters will gain additional under-floor storage. The rear doors open to 80 degrees and the rear seats recline and slide, boasting best-in-class rear legroom.

Although the full range has yet to be confirmed, a source said the range will closely mirror that of the Qashqai. Higher spec models, like the Tekna trim pictured here, will feature 19in alloy wheels, electric leather seats, a full-length, part-sliding sunroof and a powered tailgate.

Nissan confirmed that despite sharing the Qashqai's platform, the X-Trail will not be built in Sunderland. The plant is running at near capacity, and the forthcoming Infiniti Q30 hatchback will increase plant output further.

The X-Trail is already on sale in North American markets, badged as Rogue. That model features a 170bhp 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to Nissan's X-Tronic transmission. Nissan has confirmed that engine will not be offered in European models, though.
