Stuttgart – With the new Estate model Mercedes-Benz will expand the C?Class family starting in September 2014. The Estate shines with a clear and at the same time emotional-sporty design, innovative technology, variability and a cargo volume enlarged even beyond that of the predecessor model. Its high-class, sophisticated interior makes modern luxury tangible with design highlights. With these qualities the Estate reinforces its reputation as a multifaceted lifestyle vehicle with outstanding properties for everyday use. In addition, with its many new assistance systems it not only offers the highest standards of safety, but thanks to intelligent lightweight construction, exceptional aerodynamics and new economical engines it also sets new efficiency benchmarks in its segment. The Estate model also provides the stage for the world première of the Mercedes connect me services, which, among other things, make it possible to connect to the vehicle from anywhere at any time and retrieve the current fill level of the tank online.

The new C-Class Estate combines a striking, dynamic design and high-class appointments with outstanding variability and a high level of utility. With its versatility it also adapts to a wide variety of requirements. As a stylish, sporty space vehicle it accompanies active, modern people on shopping sprees, on vacation or when playing sports, and is suitable for families in every respect. Consequently, it continues the tradition of the C-Class Estates, which all in their own time combined demands on lifestyle, sportiness and practicality in an estate car, in the fourth generation on a new level.

With its state-of-the-art technical features it also strikes out in new directions in its segment with regard to safety, efficiency and comfort. Variable and practical

The dimensions of new C-Class Estate have grown considerably. With an 80?millimetre increase in the wheelbase (2840 millimetres) compared with the previous model, the vehicle is 96 millimetres longer (4702 millimetres) and 40 millimetres wider (1810 millimetres). The resulting increase in space primarily benefits the rear-seat passengers who now enjoy 45 millimetres more legroom. There is also more shoulder room, elbow room and headroom than in the previous model.

The moderate growth spurt also involves the load compartment. The sporty rear of the new C-Class Estate provides a maximum load capacity of 1510 litres (according to ISO 3832). It thus surpasses its predecessor by ten litres. The load compartment volume behind the rear seats increased by five litres to 490 litres.

Variability and consequently functionality also increased significantly. The rear seats now have a 40 : 20 : 40 split instead of the 60 : 40 split in the predecessor. This opens up a wide range of possibilities to use the interior as five-seater, four-seater, three-seater or two-seater.

Practical details ensure that the load compartment is even more versatile and easier to use, and as a result it can be conveniently tailored to the individual transport tasks. The rear-seat backrests can be unlocked and folded electrically at the push of a button to create a enlarged level load compartment.

The exceptional loading convenience can optionally be further enhanced with the EASY PACK power liftgate and the likewise optional HANDS-FREE ACCESS system. It allows opening and closing the liftgate without touching it. All it takes is a motion of the foot in the area of the rear bumper.

Dynamic and of high value

The new C-Class sets visual highlights with a modern, dynamic design that at the same time exudes sensuous clarity, arouses emotions and, to top it all off, stages high-tech in perfect fashion. Customers can choose from two fronts – with the sports grille or – reserved solely for the EXCLUSIVE Line – the luxury grille with the Mercedes star on the bonnet.

Unusual for a vehicle with a focus on a high level of utility and functionality is the high-value interior of the Estate, which was adopted from the Saloon. With straightforward sportiness, thrilling flowing lines and high-grade materials on the level of a luxury vehicle, it realises a modern, luxurious and at the same time sporty ambience. In addition to the base model, there are also three distinct design and equipment lines each for the exterior and interior.

The Estate also bears the quality seal of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation for a scientifically tested high level of allergy-friendliness. Mercedes-Benz is the only vehicle manufacturer to earn the ECARF seal.

Touchpad and head-up display

The touchpad in the new C-Class Estate developed by Mercedes-Benz marks an evolutionary step. As on a smartphone, all the head-unit functions can be operated using finger gestures. The 65 x 45 millimetre control surface of the touchpad is built into the handrest on the central control panel and bordered by a high-quality metal support – a design feature with a high-tech feel which exudes luxury at the same time.

A head-up display is also new feature in the C-Class Estate. As in a jet fighter, it projects important information directly into the driver\'s field of vision, ensuring that there is less distraction from the road ahead. The system informs about vehicle speed, posted speed limits, navigation instructions and DISTRONIC messages.

Less weight, more comfort

Thanks to innovative solutions, the body shell of the new C-Class Estate weighs less, provides the basis for outstanding vehicle handling and best noise and vibration comfort with exceptional rigidity, and offers a high level of crash safety. With an aluminium content of 49 per cent and up to 65 kilograms less gross vehicle weight the Estate is the lightweight-construction leader in its segment.

Efficient and lively engines

The powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines with ECO start/stop function comply with Euro VI emissions standards and ensure sporty performance and driving pleasure. Compared with the predecessor they in part consume in excess of 20 per cent less fuel.

The diesel models of the new C-Class are powered by the further advanced four-cylinder or the new small four-cylinder engine, which as BlueTEC models are all equipped with SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction). They cover an output range from 85 kW(115 hp) to 150 kW (204 hp).

In addition, Mercedes-Benz offers a diesel engine combined with a hybrid module. The C 300 BlueTEC HYBRID with four-cylinder diesel engine and compact electric motor generates a power output of 150 + 20 kW (204 + 27 hp) and despite its high power output runs on just 3.8 litres of diesel per 100 km/h in NEDC combined mode (equivalent to 99 grams of CO2 per kilometre).

Three BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines and one BlueDIRECT six?cylinder petrol engine with power outputs ranging from 115 to 245 kW (156 to 333 hp) will initially be available for the new C-Class. The four-cylinder C 350 HYBRID with plug-in technology and a power output of 155 + 50 kW will follow in due course.

Agile and comfortable driving

Exemplary ride comfort coupled with outstanding dynamic vehicle handling – these are the hallmarks of the newly designed suspension of the new C-Class Estate. Thanks to a new four-link front axle it offers driving pleasure and ride comfort at the same time.

C-Class Estate customers will have a choice of two versions of the standard-specification steel suspension, which also includes a sporty set-up. As an alternative, Mercedes-Benz for the first time offers an air suspension in this segment. The AIRMATIC air suspension manages to bridge the gap between a high level of ride comfort and dynamic-agile handling. AIRMATIC also features all-round self-levelling for optimum ride comfort even with the vehicle loaded.

Choose your own driving experience

In the new C-Class Estate the driver can determine the desired driving programme at the push of a button. Depending on the equipment level, the driver can choose from various preconfigured drive programmes and one the driver can design personally to a large extent. The following characteristics are available: "Comfort", "ECO", "Sport" and "Sport+". The additional "Individual" option enables drivers to configure their vehicle to suit their own preferences.

Like the Saloon, the new C-Class Estate is equipped with an electric parking brake. This brake is released automatically when the driver ends parking mode with the aim of moving off.

As is customary, the new C-Class is also available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Steering with a sporty character

All models of the C-Class family will in future feature the electromechanical Direct-Steer system as standard. It combines road-speed dependent power assistance from the speed-sensitive power steering system, with a steering ratio that varies according to the given steering angle. The power steering assist provided by the rack-and-pinion steering gear is controlled as needed, thereby contributing towards efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive: the intelligent car

It is the declared aim of Mercedes-Benz to make the highest standard of safety available to everyone. For this reason the Estate adopts almost all new assistance systems from the S- and E-Class, which have been enhanced with significant functions. The assistance systems increase both comfort and safety. Mercedes-Benz calls this Intelligent Drive.

The C-Class Estate is fitted as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness. It offers an adjustable sensitivity level and can provide drivers with information on their level of fatigue and the amount of driving time that has elapsed since the last break.

Also part of the standard equipment is COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. In addition to the adaptive Brake Assist system, which helps to protect against collisions at speeds above 7 km/h, this system now features an additional function: when a danger of collision persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out autonomous braking at speeds of up to 105 km/h (200 km/h in conjunction with DISTRONIC PLUS), thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles. The system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles at a speed of up to 50 km/h, and is able to prevent rear-end collisions at up to 40 km/h.

New assistance systems with enhanced functions are optionally available, combining data from various sensor technologies as part of the Intelligent Drive concept to enhance comfort and safety:

DISTRONIC PLUS – relieves the burden on the driver in keeping a safe following distance

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot relieves the burden on the driver in keeping a safe following distance, even in stop & go traffic. Steering Assist is new and helps the driver with lateral control of the vehicle, even in gentle bends, and offers a tailback vehicle following function.

BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist boosts driver braking depending on the situation, if necessary up to full brake application and, for the first time, can also react to crossing traffic and pedestrians.

Active Lane Keeping Assist warns of unintentional lane departures by means of pulsed vibrations of the steering wheel and in the presence of solid lane markings corrects the vehicle\'s track with one-sided brake application. It now also intervenes with one-sided brake applications in the presence of broken lane markings if the adjacent lane is occupied by, for example, oncoming traffic, fast overtaking or overtaken vehicles.

The multitude of optionally available assistance systems also include, among others

Active Parking Assist, which enables automated parking with active steering and brake intervention in both parallel and end-on parking spaces

Traffic Sign Assist with wrong-way warning function, which warns of speed limits and also alerts the driver to no-overtaking zones and no?entry signs

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, which allows the high-beam headlamps to be kept on permanently by masking out other vehicles in the light cone of the high-beam headlamps

Airbags for safety

In addition to 3-point safety belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for driver, front passenger and those in the outer rear seats, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle\'s occupants in an accident. These include:

The front-passenger\'s seat can furthermore be equipped with an automatic child seat recognition system. This automatic front-passenger\'s airbag deactivation, introduced first by Mercedes-Benz, uses a pressure sensor in the seat cushion to detect whether an infant or child seat was placed on the front-passenger\'s seat and automatically deactivates the front-passenger\'s airbag. Contrary to other systems that require the airbag to be deactivated with a key, this system prevents incorrect operation. As no special transponder is required, the system works with all rear-facing child restraint systems.

Climate control: signals from space

The further advanced climate control system provides improved control quality, performance, efficiency and air quality. The new Estate is the only vehicle in the segment to offer tunnel detection via satellite navigation. It uses the map data from the navigation system and the GPS location data to close the air recirculation flap automatically when the vehicle enters a tunnel, subsequently re-opening it when the vehicle emerges from the tunnel.

Another highlight contributing to a feel-good atmosphere is the AIR BALANCE package with active fragrancing, air ionisation and more efficient filtration than is available on the standard model.

Vibrant infotainment experience

Like the Saloon, the new Estate offers a completely new multimedia generation with intuitive operation, featuring elaborate animations and visual effects which present all the functions in a clear and highly attractive manner. The Estate is furthermore also equipped with the Frontbass system. This avant-garde acoustic systems uses the space within the cross-member and side member in the body structure as a resonance chamber for the subwoofers. The result is a listening experience almost on a par with that enjoyed in a concert hall. A Burmester® surround sound system is optionally available.

The navigation system presents its contents in interactive mode. Its features include an animated compass, a "Drive Show" with information for passengers similar to the on-screen presentations on board airliners and Google Maps displayed on the head unit. COMAND Online is now also able to provide more accurate real-time information about the situation on the roads when it receives its traffic data via the internet by means of the "Live Traffic Information" service.

Internet and diverse data sources

A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone with data option is all it takes to make even the Audio 20 system internet-capable. This enables the internet to be surfed without restrictions when the vehicle is stationary.

In conjunction with COMAND Online, Mercedes-Benz Apps such as Weather, GoogleTMLocal Search with StreetView and Panoramio, destination/route download and Facebook can be used while on the move. Audio and video playback is possible from various sources. For example, via Bluetooth®, from an Apple iPod® or iPhone®, from an SD card, USB stick or CD/DVD (with Audio 20 CD or higher and with COMAND Online).

COMAND Online with hotspot functionality

COMAND Online not only offers a larger display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and a special bonded glass cover such as is familiar from consumer devices like the iPhone® or iPad. It also enables digital TV/radio reception, for example, and offers fast hard-disc navigation, automatic tailback avoidance via up-to-date and accurate "Live Traffic Information", an integrated WLAN hotspot functionality and the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system.

Telephony via Bluetooth® as standard

The standard Audio 20 USB system as well as Audio 20 CD and COMAND Online all offer basic telephony as standard, which links up a mobile phone to the vehicle via a standardised Bluetooth® interface.

Vehicle online with Mercedes connect me

Mercedes-Benz will introduce a new package of services in Europe under the name "Mercedes connect me" with the new C-Class Estate. The "Mercedes connect me" services can be used via a KOM module with its own SIM card integrated into the vehicle. The available services include accident, maintenance and breakdown management, for example. Likewise, customers can connect to their vehicle from anywhere and at any time via "Mercedes connect me" and, among other things, retrieve the fill level of the tank or start, stop or programme the auxiliary heating system.

May 20, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The newly consolidated Dodge and SRT brands are launching out of the gate at full throttle – introducing the new 600-plus horsepower 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine and its stablemate – the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT just one month after taking the wraps off the new Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI® Scat Pack Shaker at the New York Auto Show.

Driven by the five SRT performance hallmarks, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT and Challenger SRT with the Hellcat engine are re-designed and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupes on the market with performance-enhancing technologies inside and out. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will feature the most powerful V-8 engine ever produced by Chrysler Group – the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT coupes will be built at the Brampton (Ont.) Assembly plant. Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2014.

Awe-inspiring powertrains

For 2015, the Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine is propelled by the new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8. Its 600-plus horsepower rating will be the highest of any V-8 engine in Chrysler Group's celebrated history. The all-new V-8 engine can be mated with an upgraded six-speed manual transmission or a beefy, new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic – the first such gearbox ever offered in the Dodge Challenger SRT's time-honored segment.

This new HEMI® Hellcat engine is Dodge and SRT's first application of V-8 supercharger technology, delivering the full brand experience with fresh potency.

The breakthrough supercharged engine features a forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces. The result is a crank so well-engineered it can withstand firing pressures of 110 bar (1,595 psi) – the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every two revolutions. And its unique, specially tuned crank damper has been tested to 13,000 rpm.

High-strength, forged-alloy pistons – developed using advanced telemetry measurement – are coupled to powder-forged connecting rods with high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like-carbon-coated piston pins.

The new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 has premium-grade, heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads that are optimized for superior thermal conductivity. And its die-cast aluminum rocker covers are HEMI Orange.

In addition to the supercharged HEMI V-8 in the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT model also gets a power boost with upgrades to the 392 HEMI V-8. Horsepower climbs to 485 from 470, while peak torque jumps to 475 lb.-ft. from 470 lb.-ft.

The 392 also can be mated with a new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic or the proven six-speed manual transmission.

All-new Drive Modes tailor the driving experience to each individual driver

Whether its on-road or on-track, Challenger SRT owners can personalize their drive experience via the all-new Drive Modes feature. Drive Modes tailor the driving experience by controlling horsepower, transmission shift speeds, steering (Challenger SRT only), paddle shifters (automatic transmission only), traction and suspension. Drive Modes are pre-configured for Sport, Track and Default settings, while the Custom setting lets the driver customize the drive experience to their favorite settings.

Custom - Allows the driver to personalize the vehicle's performance

Sport - Delivers increased vehicle performance capability over the Default Mode

Track - Delivers maximum vehicle performance capability on smooth, dry surfaces

Default - Activates automatically when starting the vehicle

The Drive Mode feature is controlled through the Uconnect system and may be accessed by performing any of the following:

Unlocking the power

For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs – red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output.

Valet Mode is offered on both Challenger SRT and Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine. When Valet Mode is activated, the following vehicle configurations are enabled:

Engine is remapped to significantly reduce horsepower and torque; limited to 4,000 rpm

Transmission locks out access to first gear and upshifts earlier than normal

Transmission will treat the manual shifter position the same as the drive position

Traction, steering and suspension are set to their "Street" settings

Steering-wheel paddle shifters are disabled

Drive Mode functions are disabled

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is enabled to Full-on

Launch Control is disabled

The driver can activate and deactivate Valet Mode with a four-digit PIN code they create.

Outstanding ride and handling

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT rides on new, SRT-exclusive "77" eight-spoke 20 x 9-inch forged-aluminum "Hyper Black" wheels. Standard 245/45ZR20 (front and rear) Goodyear RSA2 All-Season or available Goodyear F1 Supercar Three-Season tires deliver serious grip and handling.

Standard wheels on the Challenger SRT with the Hellcat engine are new SRT-exclusive "Slingshot" split-seven spoke 20 x 9.5-inch, lightweight forged-aluminum wheels with a matte black finish; available on the SRT 392 as part of the SRT Track Pack. New P275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zero Nero tires (front and rear) provide all-season traction while the newest tire technology from Pirelli includes the class exclusive four-season tire that is Y-Plus rated to handle the extreme speeds. Pirelli P Zero tires are available for three-season performance driving.

Available on the Challenger SRT Hellcat are 20 x 9.5-inch, lightweight forged-aluminum wheels with a Brass Monkey/dark bronze finish.

Benchmark braking

Standard on the 2015 Challenger SRT with the Hellcat engine is the largest front-brake package ever offered in an SRT vehicle, featuring all-new 390-mm (15.4-inch) Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers for outstanding heat management/thermal capacity and longevity. This upgraded high-performance brake package is available on the 392 HEMI® SRT model as part of the SRT Track Pack.

New anti-lock braking system (ABS), ESC and traction control systems are uniquely tuned and configurable for specific tire and powertrain configurations.

Aggressive and functional exteriors

Dodge and SRT designers and engineers spent 35 percent more time in the Chrysler Group's full-scale wind tunnel in Auburn Hills, Michigan, (compared with the previous-generation Dodge Challenger SRT) developing and further refining the aggressive and functional exteriors on the Challenger SRT and Challenger SRT Hellcat. The result is a re-engineered Challenger capable of maximum aerodynamic performance for spirited driving on the road or the race track.

At the front, new fascia designs and all-new vertical-split grille provide a menacing update of its 1971 inspiration. A larger, power-bulge aluminum hood features a dedicated "cold-air" intake – a visual styling cue from the first Viper coupe built in 1996.

The hood on the new Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine also includes dual air extractors to ensure effective removal of heat and reduced air turbulence in the engine compartment. The hood is standard in body color and is available in a Satin Black finish. Both models of the Challenger SRT feature all-aluminum hoods designed to reduce weight.

Another key design element on the Challenger SRT Hellcat is the exclusive Air Catcher inlet port, which feeds ram-air directly into the engine air box through the driver-side parking lamp.

All-new quad projector headlamps give a more detailed appearance, while a more aggressive brow "chops" the upper portion of the lamp design for an even more sinister attitude.

Integrated projector fog lamps on the Challenger 392 SRT are pushed to the lower corners to help accentuate the car's width while illuminating the road. A new duck-bill fascia splitter helps improve the vehicle's aerodynamics.

The Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine features a larger front splitter designed for optimal downforce to minimize lift.

From the side, the signature muscular proportions and large thruster rear-quarter panels stand out from the crowd, while fender and belt lines tie together at the front and rear of the car to create a sleeker appearance. Differentiating the Challenger SRT Hellcat from the rest of the Challenger lineup are its "SUPERCHARGED" fender badges. Black sills accentuate the proportions of the muscle coupe and have been tuned in the wind tunnel to improve aerodynamics.

The performance cockpit of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT carries an essence of the 1971 Challenger, in an artistic and more organically styled way.

The all-new cleanly executed instrument panel features a stamped aluminum bezel, which sets the tone for the driver's display. For a high-tech look, an innovative 7-inch driver-selectable driver information display (DID) screen is centered in the gauge cluster and provides an almost infinitely customizable display. The all-new DID screen is flanked by new analog speedometer and tachometer gauges, which provide a heritage-inspired look with concave shapes and a hub-covered needle design, reminiscent of the "tic-toc-tach" gauges from the 1971 Challenger. For the Challenger SRT with the Hellcat engine, the fixed gauges and digital graphics are finished in a Dark Radar Red tone to make it even more unique.

Additionally, the dashboard's center stack neatly houses the new standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. New for 2015 drivers can select one of the many offered backgrounds to connect the digital look and feel with their chosen interior package.

A new, trapezoidal shaped stamped aluminum center console provides Challenger SRT's interior with a fresh look. The aluminum trim gets one of two finishes, "Hectic Mesh" for the Challenger 392 SRT and "Dark Engine Turn" for the Challenger SRT Hellcat. The console also exudes craftsmanship and style with leather-wrapped surfaces and French-seamed accent stitching running from the back to the front. Employing a unique, elevated design, the all-new center console houses ergonomically located redundant button and knob controls for audio and climate functions. An all-new media hub with an SD card slot, USB outlet and audio jack is neatly housed inside the center console's flocked armrest.

For those who opt for the segment-first TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, an all-new and class-exclusive electronic shifter with an all-new driver-oriented T-handle provides the driver with intuitive gear selection and offers an Auto Stick selector gate for added control. For those who prefer having a third pedal, the precise and track-proven Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission is fitted with a throwback ball shifter.

A redesigned SRT-branded heated steering wheel features a flat bottom for the high-performance driver. Available paddle shifters (with automatic transmission) are located on the back of the upper spokes. The buttons to control the driver-configurable full-color thin-film transistor (TFT) display are large and illuminated. Buttons for Uconnect and phone access now reside along the bottom edge of the horizontal spokes. Optional adaptive cruise control is configured by buttons that are symmetrically opposite on the right hand side of the wheel. As before, the highly praised audio controls are still found on the back of the upper spokes. This new tilt-telescoping steering wheel also has a 360-degree heat element.

To make cruises more pleasurable, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT features redesigned seats with improved cushioning and more comfortable contours. For improved comfort and convenience, new for 2015 are standard heated and ventilated front seats. The passenger seat also has an easy exit/entry function to provide access to the rear seat – this is controlled by a release handle on the top shoulder of the seat.

Challenger SRT offers performance seats with large side bolsters for maximum lateral support in hard cornering. The seats can be covered in Nappa leather/Alcantara material with embroidered SRT logos. Laguna premium leather, colored either sepia or black with embossed SRT logos, is available as part of an equipment package.

High-impact exterior colors

Many of the most memorable paint colors in automotive history have been found on the Challenger. The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 and SRT with the HEMI Hellcat will be available in 11 exterior colors: B5 Blue Pearl Coat, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Pearl Coat, Ivory White Tri-Coat Pearl, Jazz Blue Pearl Coat, Phantom Black Tri-Coat Pearl, Pitch Black Clear Coat, Redline Tri-Coat Pearl, Sublime Metallic Pearl Coat and TorRed Clear Coat.

Hail the size of golf balls pummeled the Philadelphia area on Thursday afternoon, coming down hard and fast enough to shatter the skylights at a Berks County mall and send shoppers running for cover.

The hail also cracked the windshield of a jet landing at Philadelphia International Airport, wrought havoc on residents' cars and left roadways looking like a snowstorm had hit.

Pamela McCain was in the middle of the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing when hail blew out the entire strand of skylights across the mall's roof, sending patrons fleeing the falling glass.

"It was one of the worst things ever seen. The hail was so intense," she said. "I've lived on this earth for 40 years and never seen anything like it."

Bernadette Marco was inside the mall with a friend when the hail storm started just before 4 p.m.

"We were in the store, and we thought we heard thunder. But it was really loud, and it didn't stop, and so we walked out into the middle of the mall, and we were looking — and all of the sudden hail just started coming through parts of the ceiling, so we ran back into the store," Marco said.

Hail blew out the entire strand of skylights across the roof of the mall, which is in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, a small town of about 10,000 and hometown of Taylor Swift.

When the weather calmed, Marco and her friend went outside to find her car, and dozens of others, heavily damaged. "We had to get my friend's aunt to come and pick us up, and we saw other people driving with their windshields completely blown out."

No one was injured.

The mall shut did down for the evening for cleanup and repairs. PennDOT dispatched plows to remove clear the streets of accumulated hail, which looked like the aftermath of a snow storm.

"This is extremely unusual for this part of the country," said NBC10 Chief Meteorologist Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz.

Witnesses in some parts of the area reported seeing as much as an inch and a half of hail.

"I was pretty crazy," said Tim Dalbey, who was at work at Launch Dynamic Media in Wyomissing when the storm hit.

"You couldn't even hear each other inside, because we have a tin roof," Dalbey said. "We all just got out our cameras and started taking pictures."

Dalbey's car was damaged, too, and he spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone with his insurance company. "My back windshield got smashed through. My front windshield is cracks. Dings, all over the car," he said.

Funnel clouds were reported near Hartly in Kent County, Delaware, on  Thursday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning that expired at 5:15 p.m.

Just before 5 p.m., a US Airways jet plane landed at Philadelphia International Airport with a cracked windshield after flying through the hailstorm as it was getting ready to land. No one was hurt. The plane landed safely and was taken out of commission for an inspection and repairs.

THE WORLDS UNSOLD CAR STOCKPILE

Houston...We have a problem!...Nobody is buying brand new cars anymore!  Well they are, but not on the scale they once were.  Millions of brand new unsold cars are just sitting redundant on runways and car parks around the world.  There, they stay, slowly deteriorating without being maintained.

Below is an image of a massive car park at Swindon, United Kingdom, with thousands upon thousands of unsold cars just sitting there with not a buyer in sight. The car manufacturers have to buy more and more land just to park their cars as they perpetually roll off the production line.

There is proof that the worlds recession is still biting and wont let go.  All around the world there are huge stockpiles of unsold cars and they are being added to every day.  They have run out of space to park all of these brand new unsold cars and are having to buy acres and acres of land to store them.

NOTE:

The images on this webpage showing all of these unsold cars are just a very small portion of those around the world.  There are literally thousands of these "car parks" rammed full of unsold cars in practically every country on the planet.  Just in case you were wondering, these images have not been Photoshopped, they are the real deal!

Its hard to believe that there are so many unsold cars in the world but its true.  The worse part is that the amount of unsold cars keeps on getting bigger every day.

It would be fair to say that it is becoming a mechanical epidemic of epic proportions.  If anybody from outer space is reading this webpage, we here on Earth have too many cars, why not come and buy a few hundred thousand of them for your own planet! (sorry but this is all I can think of)

Below is shown just a few of the 57,000 cars (and growing) that await delivery from their home in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. With Google Maps look South of Broening Hwy in Dundalk for the massive expanse of space where all these cars are parked up.

The car industry would never sell these cars at massive reductions in their prices to get rid of them, no they still want every buck.  If they were to price these cars for a couple of thousand they would sell them.  However, nobody would then buy any expensive cars and then they  would end up being unsold.  Its quite a pickle we have gotten ourselves into.

Below is shown an image of the Nissan test track in Sunderland United Kingdom.  Only it is no longer being used, reason...there are too many unsold cars parked up on it!  The amount of cars keeps on piling up on it until its overflowing.  Nissan then acquires more land to park up the cars, as they continue to come off the production line.

UPDATE: Currently May 16th, 2014, all of these cars at the Nissan Sunderland test track have disappeared? Now I don't believe they have all suddenly been sold.  I would guess they may have been taken away and recycled to make room for the next vast production run.

Indeed next to that test track and adjacent to the Nissan factory, they are collating again as shown on the Google Maps image below.  So where did the last lot go? This is not an employees car park by the way.

None of the images on this webpage are of ordinary car parks at shopping malls, football matches etc.  Trust me, they are just mountains and mountains of brand spanking new unsold cars. There is no real reason why you should be driving an old clunker now is there?

The car industry cannot stop making new cars because they would have to close their factories and lay off tens of thousands of employees.  This would further add to the recession.  Also the domino effect would be catastrophic as steel manufactures would not sell their steel. All the tens of thousands of places where car components are made would also be effected, indeed the world could come to a grinding halt.

Below is shown just a small area of a gigantic car park  in Spain where tens of thousands of cars just sit and sunbathe all day.

They are also piling up at the port of Valencia in Spain as seen below.  They are either waiting to be exported to...nowhere or have been imported...to go nowhere.

Tens of thousands of cars are still being made every week but hardly any of them are being sold.  Nearly every household in developed countries already has a car or even two or three cars parked up on their driveway as it is.

Below is an image of thousands upon thousands of unsold cars parked up on a runway near St Petersburg in Russia.  They are all imported from Europe, they are all then parked up and they are all then left to rot. Consequently, the airport is now unusable for its original purpose.

The cycle of buying, using, buying using has been broken, it is now just a case of "using" with no buying. Below is an image of thousands of unsold cars parked up on an disused runway at Upper Heyford, Bicester, Oxfordshire. They are seriously running out of space to store these cars.

It is a sorry state of affairs and there is no answer to it, solutions don't exist.  So the cars just keep on being manufactured and keep on adding to the millions of unsold cars already sitting redundant around the world.

Below are parked tens of thousands of cars at Royal Portbury Docks, Avonmouth, near Bristol in the United Kingdom. If you look on Google Maps and scan around the area at say 200ft you will see nothing but parked up unsold cars. They are absolutley everywhere in that area practically every open space has unsold cars parked up on it.

Below is that same area in Avonmouth, UK, but zoomed out. Every gray space that you see is filled with unsold cars.  Anyone want to hazard a guess at how many are there...

As it is, there are more cars than there are people on the planet with an estimated 10 billion roadworthy cars in the world today.

We literally cannot make enough of them. Below are seen just a few of the thousands of Citroen's parked up at Corby, Northamptonshire in England. They are being added to daily, imported from France but with nowhere else to go once they arrive.

So there they sit, brand spanking new cars, all with a couple of miles on the clock that was consummate with them being driven to their car parks.  Below is the latest May 2014 Google Maps image of unsold cars in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Manufacturing more cars than can be sold is against all logic, logistics and economics but it continues day after day, week after week, month after month, year in year out.

Below is shown a recent (April 2014) screen grab from Google Maps of the Italian port of Civitavecchia.  All those little specks are a few thousand brand new unsold Peugeots.  Just collecting dust and maybe a bit of salty sea spray!

Below, all nice and shiny but with nowhere to go.  Red and white and black and silver, purple, pink and blue, all the colors of the rainbow and be they all brand new.  Indeed all the colors of the rainbow are down there on those cars, making pretty mosaics, montages of color and still life.  Maybe that is all they will now ever be, surreal urban art of the techno production age.  Magnificent metal boxes, wasting space and saving grace, all sitting still, because its business at mill.

All around the world these cars just keep on piling up, there is no end in sight.  The economy shouts out quite loud that nobody has the money anymore to spend on a new car. The reason being that they are making their "old" cars go on a lot longer.  But we cannot stop making them, soon we will run out of space to park them.  We are nearly running out of space to drive them that's for sure!

Below, more cars mount up in the port of Valencia in Spain. They will not be exported as there is nowhere for them to go, so they just sit and rot in their colorful droves.

Gone are the days when the family would have a new car every year, they are now keeping what they have got.  It may be fair to say that some  families still get a new car every year but its the majority that now do not.

The results are in these images, hundreds of thousands if not millions of cars around the world are driven from their factories, parked up and left.

Could we say that these cars have been left to rot!  Maybe, as these cars will certainly rot if they are not bought, driven and cared for.  It does not look like they will be sold any day soon, many of them have been standing for over 12 months or even longer and this is detrimental to the car.

Below, as far as the eye can see, right into the background, cars, cars and more cars. But what's beyond the horizon?  Have a guess...Yes that's right...even more cars!  All brand new but with no homes to go to.  Do you think they will ever start giving them away, that may be the only radical solution.  Who knows, you could soon be getting a free car with every packet of cornflakes.

When a car is left standing idle, all the oil sinks to the bottom of the sump, and then corrosion begins to set in on all the internal engine parts where the oil has drained away.

Cold corrosion is when condensation builds up in the cylinders and rust forms in the bores. The engines would then start to seize and would need to be professionally freed before they could be started.  Also the tires start to lose air and the batteries start to go flat, indeed the detrimental list goes on and on.

So the longer they sit there the worse it slowly becomes for them.  What is the answer to this?  Well they need to be sold and that just isn't happening.

The epidemic is not improving, it is getting worse.  Car manufactureres are constantly coming out with new models with the latest technology in them.  Hence prospective buyers of, for example, a new Citroen Xsara Picasso want the latest model, not last years model.  Hence all the unsold Citroen Xsara Picasso cars from the previous year will now have even lesser chance of being sold.

The problems then just keep on mounting up.  In the end, the unsold cars that are say 2 years old will have no alternative but to be either crushed up, dismantled and/or their parts recycled.

Some car manufacturers moved their production over to China, General Motors and Cadillac are examples of this.  They are then shipped over in containers and unloaded at ports.  However they are now being told to put a big halt in their import into the U.S.A. as they just can't sell them in the quantities they would desire.  Consequently Chinese car parks are now filling up with brand new American cars.  Well nobody in China can afford them on their meagre pittance wages, so there they will stay until our economy improves...which it might do in a few generations.

Thanks to the extensive use of high- and ultra-high strength steels, the new SportWagen bodyshell is lighter than the current Jetta SportWagen and offers an enhanced crash structure. The Golf SportWagen is 1.1 inches longer and 0.7 inches wider than the current SportWagen model. The TDI model will have a choice of six-speed manual or DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

Design

The design team, led by Walter de Silva (Group Design) and Klaus Bischoff (VW Brand Design), created a timeless and sophisticated new SportWagen, using the principles of Volkswagen's Design DNA. Thanks to the MQB architecture, which dictates a fixed relationship between the front wheel centerline and the pedals, the car's proportions have changed. The front wheels, for example, are now 1.7 inches further forward than on the current SportWagen design. This has created what Bischoff calls "'a cab backward impression.' That's what we call the proportions of premium-class vehicles, where the hood is long and the passenger compartment is a long way towards the back."

Compared with the previous generation SportWagen, the new car's front end looks completely different, thanks to the way that the hood slopes down into the front fenders instead of the fender peaks being higher than the hood. This new SportWagen features more angular horizontal design cues, with a slender radiator grille.

At the back, the clean surface around the VW badge, the wide rear window, and the geometric taillights are typical SportWagen features, even though the lines are completely different. The tailgate, for instance, allows for a lower load height than before, while the overall effect emphasizes the additional width of the new car.

Features

Along the lines of the new Golf 7, the SportWagen will bring a number of available new features to market including a panoramic power tilt and slide sunroof, 12-way power driver's seat, Climatronic® automatic climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs and the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), Park Distance Control, and available 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

In addition, the new SportWagen features a new standard driver assistance system called the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System (APCBS). Here's a wild one I heard this morning, which seems to take the already poisonous atmosphere in the US Senate Race to a new level.

A few days ago, the Madville Times blog was attacking US Senate Candidate Jason Ravnsborg as Oh_No_staceys_spyingbeing driven to an event in a vehicle with Minnesota Plates, as you'll note from the screen-shot here on the left.

The pictures were taken at one of the recent Lincoln Day Dinners, at Cedar Shores.

(I'm not sure if it was a rental, belongs to a supporter, or what, but to my knowledge, it's not Ravenborg's personal vehicle.)

The blogpost cited the photos as coming from "One of my sources."

The only problem? At least two people witnessed a very notable person taking several photos of the vehicle.  The person who had the itch for vehicle photography? The people witnessing it directly identified him as none other than US Senate Candidate Stace Nelson.

The people who witnessed the photography also noted that photos of the car started showing up on the liberal Democratic blog, where Nelson also happens to be an advertiser, during the Republican dinner itself.

So, a Republican candidate for US Senate (who happens to call himself the 'true' conservative in the race) takes photos which end up being used to try to attack/embarrass a fellow Republican candidate for US Senate on the Liberal Democratic blog where he's an advertiser?

Ben Affleck's Batman Costume & Batmobile Car: First Look Images Revealed!

Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming highly anticipated film Batman vs. Superman, has just revealed the first picture of Ben Affleck's Batman in front of the Batmobile!

"I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham" the director tweeted earlier today.

The day before, Zack teased his Twitter followers by releasing a picture of the Batmobile mostly covered in a tarp.
