About This 1967 Fiat Dino

Posted: 13 Aug 2014

Stock 2.4 L, six cylinder, triple weber 40 four-barrel, etc., with ZF dogleg 5 speed manual transmission. Good condition. Odometer reads 14061 Km. Runs well. California car. I've owned the car about 10 years. It's an awesome car. Previous owner bought the car from Fantasy Junction in Berkeley, CA. The car was shown at Concorso Italiano before I owned it. Designed by Bertone.

This car has been reasonably well maintained and cared for, is in great condition, runs great, but, still has the type of wear and tear typical of a car almost 50 years old. It's not in excellent condition, though it is the nicest Dino coupe I have seen. The car starts up quickly. Does not smoke, or burn oil, at least nothing noticeable. With the exception of a minor dime size spot beginning to bubble over the passenger rear tail lamp, it has no noticeable rust. (If it has rust, I can't find it). Please see enclosed photos. There is no rust evident in the normal trouble zones. The sills, fenders, running boards, tire well, look clear.

Car appears to have been well maintained over the years: Some maintenance records going back to 1995. Repairs include: Rebuilt clutch and master cylinder; new/rebuilt exhaust system (Stebro); replaced slave cylinder (1999); Cylinder head/valve job, cam chains and guides replaced at 5443 (2000); carbs tuned. I recently had distributor rebuilt and drive shaft rebalanced. Quasi regular tune ups.

The car can be idiosyncratic at times, but presently runs, sounds and handles really well. The driving experience is thrilling.

The flaws: The original Dino steering wheel disintegrated and has been replaced by a wooden Nardi. Horn is not connected. One of the headlight beams is out. The passenger side power window works, but is slow. The driver side works fine. It has aftermarket seatbelts installed by previous owner. The interior carpet and trunk carpet are tired. There are cracks in the dash. Not all the gauges work, but most do. The interior is generally good, but not great. It has a few minor dings that are not noticeable. It has a thin scratch in the front hood about three inches long (see photo).

The engine is the 2.4 Dino iron block engine. I am not sure whether this is the original engine. I have some manuals and extra parts.

In <b>pictures</b>: Futuristic designs for the 3D printed <b>cars</b> of tomorrow <b>...</b>

Posted: 06 Jun 2014 02:27 AM PDT

This futuristic looking electric car has been selected to be 3D printed as part of a competition to showcase the potential of the fast-developing printing technology.

It will be turned into a working vehicle using the technology, following a competition that saw would-be vehicle designers submitting their proposals for the cars of tomorrow.

US car manufacturing maverick Local Motors launched the competition to design the first 3D printed electric vehicle earlier this year.

The chosen design will be printed using a Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) machine, the first large-scale 3D printer of its kind, at September's International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago.

The winner was chosen by a panel of judges, who also awarded six other design innovation awards for unique concepts and ideas. Here we take a closer look at the winning designs.

Strati: Winner

strati

The winning design was created by Italian designer Michele AnoƩ, who developed this compact car to be easily be entered and not look out of place on our roads.

It will inspire the full-size 3D printed prototype.

Lonnie Love, from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, said: "Michele's design offers an excellent balance between innovation, complexity and practicality. It has good 3D lines and the retractable roof is really cool."

Internal Strut Frame

internalstrutframe

This design has an innovative structure that uses vertical struts to support the upper surfaces of the vehicle.

The concept was selected as the community favourite.

Aeroblade

aeroblade

The Aeroblade was designed to try and push new aerodynamic techniques by conducting the airflow through uniquely designed 3D blades.

Judges described the design as being very futuristic-looking.

3DPCX

3dpcx2

The 3DPCX looks slightly like an expanded go-kart, but the car uses creative structural support to help hold it together.

Judges praised the vehicle for its simplicity but ability to still be innovative.

LM Supernova

lmsupernova

The design was inspired by supernovas in space, which the designer describes as 'exploding in a very aggressive way'.

It was commended by the judges for taking functional elements and combining them within a lightweight vehicle.

Mirage

mirage

The Mirage was rewarded not only for being innovative but for also combining a unique feature.

It received an innovation award for incorporating layers to create a 3D printed 'crumple zone' to protect the occupants in the case of an accident.

LM e-Spider

lmespider

The e-Spider was designed to try and achieve maximum strength while also using less material.

Judges said: "A tribute to the minimalist in all of us, the e-Spider merges the efficiency of a smart car with the effectiveness of a desert dune buggy."

Exclusive Details

0810-the-rock-car-crash-instagram-01The Rock says his mom, Ata Maivia-Johnson and his cousin were struck HEAD ON by a drunk driver this week ... and luckily, they survived.

Dwayne Johnson's uncle Afa tells us Ata and Lina Fanene were driving home from a fundraiser their family runs every year -- the Usos Foundation Banquet -- when they were crashed into by the alleged drunk driver.

Both women were rushed to a local hospital and we're told Ata was hospitalized for 3 nights. Afa wouldn't say what injuries the 65-year-old sustained ... but he did tell us it was a very scary scene.

The Rock posted a picture of the crash and his mom's white Escalade -- the one he bought her for Christmas in 2012 -- clearly totaled. Same goes for the other car involved.

Fanene -- who currently works for WWE's NXT division -- posted a photo of the actor/wrestler visiting her in the hospital.

Ata and Lina also posed for a pic in the SUV on August 2nd on their way to the fundraiser.

The Rock tweeted, "First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days."

This one was rumored to have been ordered new by a female and was delivered from a dealership in New York State. Subsequent ownership history was/is patchy, but the original build sheet and fender tag stayed in tact and well preserved. Engine and transmission stampings match the VIN and build sheet as they should. It underwent a full rotisserie restoration approximately 5 years ago, is painted the correct GB5 bright blue metallic with black vinyl top. The only options added that do NOT match the build sheet are the black bill boards and 15" rallye wheels. It originally had 14" steel wheels, 3461401 full wheel covers, and F-78 white wall tires. The fender tag reads:

Porsche 911 GT3 RS (2015) spilled in patent <b>photos</b> <b>...</b> - <b>Car</b> Magazine

Posted: 31 Jul 2014 08:00 AM PDT

By Ben Purvis

Spy shots

31 July 2014 14:00

The next Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been spied at the Nurburgring and even let out of the bag in the form of a scale model but these are the first pictures of the complete 2015 Porsche 991 GT3 RS in finished form.

As their relatively low quality shows, these arenĆ¢€™t hand-out pictures. Instead theyĆ¢€™re the photos used to patent the carĆ¢€™s design elements, which include a host of changes when compared to any existing version of the 991.

Normally such images, while filed with patent offices well in advance, arenĆ¢€™t published until well after a carĆ¢€™s official launch. But it seems someone has slipped up in this instance, giving us an early sneak peek at the new 2015 Porsche GT3 RS.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS: the patent pictures

So, what do they tell us? ItĆ¢€™s clear that virtually every panel is new, including the double-bubble roof to give more headroom for helmeted drivers. There's a new front bonnet with a distinct dip in the middle leading to an even more extreme version of the 'regular' 911 GT3Ć¢€™s front panel, complete with a larger splitter.

A wider track has led to distinctive front wings that bulge out more than any other 991 this side of the race-only RSR. The gills above the front wheels emphasise the change and presumably help to reduce pressure inside the wheel wells, just like the slatted air outlets on old flat-nose 911s and 935s. Interestingly, these have been covered with disguise panels on every prototype spotted testing so far to keep the detail hidden from prying eyes.

The old 997 GT3 had a narrow body, leaving the 997 RS to use the wider Carrera 4 shell. Today's 991 comes in three sizes: regular Carrera, 991 GT3 using the C4 body and the RS and Turbo's widest silhouette.

Turbo-style body for 2015 GT3 RS

While the Turbo-style rear wings, complete with air intakes, might give the impression that this could be a turbocharged GT2 model rather than a GT3 RS, videos of the car on test at the Nurburgring have been accompanied by a soundtrack that befits a high-revving normally aspirated engine rather than a muffled turbo flat six.

There are twin, central exhausts at the back, just like those on the standard 911 GT3. Rear wing intakes have traditionally been reserved for Turbo models, but the current, normally aspirated RSR racer already has them and it seems the RS is going to follow suit. At the rear, the high-rise wing, with a smaller ducktail underneath, is also similar to the RSRĆ¢€™s.

How powerful is the Porsche 991 GT3 RS likely to be?

Even with engine tweaks to take its power beyond the 469bhp of the GT3, the RS isnĆ¢€™t likely to be able to match the Turbo S Ć¢€" currently the most powerful of the 991 clan with 552bhp. Something in the region of 500bhp is likely, and the weight savings of the RS mean itĆ¢€™s likely to outperform any other off-the-shelf, roadgoing 991 derivative in acceleration while the race-style aerodynamics will also make it unbeatable around corners.

And to answer the inevitable question, no, there wonĆ¢€™t be a stick-shift version Ć¢€" the RS is all about performance, and that means a seven-speed PDK paddle-shift 'box will be the only transmission offering.

Weight will be trimmed everywhere: a new titanium exhaust will be fitted to the RS, and a new lithium battery is in development - with enough juice to power the electrically assisted four-wheel steering system.

Andreas Preuninger, Porsche's head of GT production cars, told CAR: 'We've opened up a wider field of usability with the new GT3, so maybe that gives us more reason to push the RS towards a more extreme side. The differentiations between the two models has always been increasing, and it's going to be like that in the future.'

Read our full interview with Porsche's Andreas Preuninger here.

Porsche 991 GT3 RS: prices, specs

At the moment, thereĆ¢€™s no official word on the carĆ¢€™s price or release date. The old 997 GT3 RS was around 20% more expensive than the GT3; similar maths would put the new one at around Ƃ£120,000.

Although these patent pictures have now leaked suggesting the official launch canĆ¢€™t be far away, CAR magazine understands the GT3 RS is a 2015 car. Looks like we'll have to wait a while longer to see the hard-core 911 variant favoured by many enthusiasts.

About This 1940 Cadillac Hearse

Posted: 26 Jul 2014

Hearse / Ambulance built by Meteor Motor Car Co. It is a great unit, ready to hit the road for shows, movies and or back into vintage service at a Funeral Home. We have searched high and low to find that this is the last known surviving hearse / ambulance coach built by Meteor in 1940.

The coach was obtained from a family member of a long closed Funeral Home in North Georgia. The family owned the car from day of delivery in 1940 until our purchase. When we purchased the car, it was the first light of day it has seen since last tagged in 1961. It is a true prestigious time capsule that had been of fable to many professional car collectors for many years.

Since it's arrival at our place, the coach has been gone through as to preserve it as the drive train has been through end to end to ensure great running operation. The whole interior has been cleaned and rear work area has been cleaned and treated as to preserve the originality.

The only reason we are offering this unit and a few of our others is to get them to new covered homes. We have run out of covered space with a new business that demands the same building and a pending move to new home with no space for them. Our loss is someone else's pride and gain. This car is in amazing condition.

Particulars:

346 Flathead V8 Cadillac Power Plant (Tank engine)

3 Speed Manual Column Shift LaSalle Transmission

Brakes are great - Rebuilt all 4 drums and rebuilt master cylinder

Glass 3 of the side doors have age cracks (fine as is) and all the rest is in good shape

Body is an 7.5 - 8 out of 10

Interior is in fair to good condition. Still very much usable and presentable.

Brass Siren / Light is in good operating condition (located behind the grill)

Both cast V signs for the windshield are included. (Funeral Coach / Ambulance)

Rear work area is in good shape.

Remote Hades rear heater (disconnected)

Floor rollers for caskets are in good operation condition and look to have been barely used.

Brass attendant fan is present and in great cosmetic shape.

All Bier Pins are in the coach and ready to use.

Both attendant seats are present and in good condition.

Cot is in good shape and ready to present.

Drunk, Unlicensed Driver Who Killed Teenager Posts Pictures of His Totaled Car Online With a Smiley Face

Written By : Cassy Fiano
August 1, 2014

Most of the time, car accidents are just accidents with no malicious intent — and while that may not be of much comfort to the family of a loved one who was killed in a car accident, at least they can rest assured that the other person is truly sorry and not, say, posting pictures of the car they smashed into with smiley faces attached to them. That's what the family of one teenaged boy is having to grapple with, as Michael Vanwagner killed their son in a car accident and laughed about it on social media.

car-accident

An unlicensed drunk driver who killed a 16-year-old boy in a horror crash last week posted a picture of his totaled vehicle with a smiley face on Facebook, just days after the tragic accident.

Michael J. Vanwagner, 24, of Coon Rapids, caused not one but two crashes on July 22 along Hwy. 252 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, according to the State Patrol.

After fleeing the first, the 24-year-old ran into Jason McCarthy's car moments later, authorities said. The teen was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center where he clung to life for days before dying on Tuesday.

On the Saturday before McCarthy died, Vanwagner posted the insensitive photo of his car on his Facebook page with the caption 'That's her front end after I got done with her lol.'

Under a second photo, he commented: 'I'm all good slept a day in the hospital then came home and did yard work lol.'

On Wednesday, he acknowledged posting the picture but said he didn't even know he hit somebody.

'I just thought I hit something,' he told the Star Tribune.

He caused not one, but two car accidents and wants to claim that he didn't even realize he had done it? Yeah, nice try, buddy. Meanwhile, the little ray of sunshine also has previous convictions for making terrorist threats, was driving on a revoked license, and was also drunk. Sounds like this loser needs to be locked up, and we need to lose the key.

Judging from the two cars.. Its hard to believe that only two vehicles were involved...
Maybe an asteroid hit them...
RIP to the dead

Wedding Photographer Loses Over 2000 <b>Photos</b> After <b>Car</b> Was <b>...</b>

A Vancouver based wedding photographer, name removed – see update below, suffered a devastating blow this week. While photographing a wedding the photographer's car was broken into and the thief made off with her bag which contained her laptop, the sole keeper of a heap of wedding photos. Of course the laptop is replaceable, but the 2,000 bridal photographs housed on it are not.

This is where the story really starts getting painful. The lost photographs were taken over the course of the previous two weeks at a couple different weddings she shot. Unfortunately, she had not had the opportunity to back up the images yet resulting in a total loss of two weddings worth of photographs.

The photographer told her local news outlet, Burnaby Now, that she had made a trip back to her car around 7:30 that evening to grab an extra lens and that everything was fine. When she returned to her car after the event was over, around 10:30PM, she was horrified to discover her car window had been smashed in and her bag and laptop had been stolen.

She is mostly sad for the couples that have had their once in a lifetime moments taken from them; however, after making a report with local law enforcement, she remains hopeful her computer will be recovered. The photographer is even offering a $500 reward for their safe return.

One of the couples, Caitlin Henderson and Jim Beland, say they are incredibly saddened by the loss of their wedding photos, but are not going to pursue a legal action against her. The newly wed couple have made a poster and have been sharing their story via Facebook hoping for the safe return of their memories.

Hopefully, this story will have a happy ending, but the photographer unfortunate tale should serve as motivation to us all, inspiring us to back up our photographs immediately, especially work done for clients and images that are deemed as 'priceless' as wedding photographs are. It also serves as a reminder to be careful what we keep in our vehicles while out shooting on location–these types of things can happen to any of us if we are not careful!

How would you handle this?

UPDATE: we removed the photographer's name. It seems stressful enough of a situation to deal with without having bad SEO juice to worry about.
